The first thing to do when planning a cruise is to select a travel date and a destination. The timing of the trip should be kept in mind when choosing the destination. Read travel brochures and compare the different cruise destinations. Also browsing some images and reading through reviews might help in picking out the right destination.

After choosing a specific destination, passport needs to be prepared. Those who still don’t have their own passports should apply for one immediately. Make sure that your passport will not expire during the trip just to avoid any complications like not being able to go on board because the lack of documents.

There are some cruise lines that require their passengers to present their visas or medical certificates, so be sure that you have all the necessary documents with you. Some even require their passengers to get vaccinations in order to immunize themselves from foreign diseases.

Another thing that has to be kept in mind is the budget. Cruises may not be cheap but they sure are worth every penny. Become familiar with the trip expenses and payment terms that come with the cruise to help the budgeting.

Not all countries accept credit cards for the payment of purchases so it is just wise to bring some extra cash to use for spending. Some cruises provide the cruisers with a ship credit card that they may use for making purchases in the shops inside the ship.

A month or two before the date of the departure, the cruise line usually sends some documents. These papers contain information about the reservation, the payment terms, the legal issues, the cabin assignment, and the insurance issues. These documents have to be read thoroughly.

Buying necessary things for the cruise should be done in advance. Although there are shops also inside the ships, the choices can be limited and the prices higher.

Animals are not allowed in cruise ships so have someone to look after your pets at home. Kennel reservations have to be made a few weeks ahead of time so make reservations as early as possible.

And to ensure a worry-free cruise trip, other responsibilities such as plant care, mail pickup, and bills should also be taken care of before hopping aboard.

There’s more to cruises than visiting exotic ports. Being aboard is an experience as itself, because there are so many things to do on a cruise ship.

Experience Being In A Floating City

Cruise ships have been likened to floating hotels. Nowadays, though, these ships are so large and are packed with so many things to do, which have earned them the image of being floating cities. In fact, it is said that whatever you can get in a city can also be provided for you on a cruise.

Those who love shopping will be glad to find that large cruise vessels today offer shopping malls, in addition to boutiques. There are also duty-free shops where you can purchase items without have to worry about extra tax. Keep in mind, though, that there might be restrictions on several items.

Window shopping can be done for hours. There are so many things to see, and what’s good about this is that these items’ prices are no longer as high as before. There are many unique pieces that come in department store prices. Feel free to browse through various items and see if you’d like to purchase anything.

Exercise Your Body

Those who like playing sports such as tennis or bowling might like to try doing this on aboard. It would definitely be a whole new experience. If you are into extreme sports, then rock climbing may be just right for you. There are various levels of rock climbing featured in some cruise vessels that can challenge even experienced climbers.

Avid golfers will also be glad to know that they can still play their favorite game even as they enjoy cruising. In fact, there are some ships that boast of driving ranges that are good enough to rival a club.

Stimulate Your Mind

Reading, aside from being a good stimulant, is also a common past time on cruises. In fact, many people love lounging around on the deck and getting that golden tan while reading a book.

Can’t choose which books to bring along on a cruise? Well, you can leave all your books behind and just find some new ones on the ship! Cruise ships now have libraries and bookstores. You might just be able to find that book you’ve been wanting to get. And would there be a better time to read it than on a cruise?

Satisfy Your Palate

In the past, food was among the main focus of cruises. Although there are now so many other things to do today, eating is still something that many people look forward to while on a cruise. There are lots of fine restaurants on cruise vessels that can rival even the best ones onshore.

You must remember, though, that it is important to enjoy this experience. So pick a cruise package that you really want. After all, this experience should be nothing less than amazing and wonderful.

On the first day of the trip, cruisers will be welcomed by a large crowd of voyagers upon their arrival at the terminal. It is highly recommended for the cruisers to come in a bit earlier than the scheduled time of departure in order to avoid a long queue. Having a lot of extra time not only gives the cruisers more time to get ready but it also provides them with less stress and worries.

The fact that airlines occasionally lose some of their passengers’ luggage is often due to connecting flights. On a cruise it’s different: efficient and experienced porters make sure that bags and suitcases will be loaded onto the ship before it departs. They will also carry the suitcases into their respective cabins as soon as possible. Carrying a lot of bags is a challenging task so cruisers are encouraged to give the porters an equivalent tip that they deserve.

Upon entering the terminal building, cruisers will be requested to join a line. They will walk through the terminal’s security facilities such as the x-ray and the metal detector. These standard procedures are only done to ensure their safety and protection.

For a more hassle-free begining of the trip, cruisers should remember that having liquor drinks in their luggage is not allowed when entering the ship. Any foolish jokes shouldn’t be conducted for the sake of general safety and security. Giving the security staff a reason for actions might lead to serious consequences.

Before boarding the ship, cruisers will be asked to wait in the Embarkation Lounge until they are called to enter the ship. Waiting in the lounge will be a great time for the cruisers to relax and to socialize with their fellow passengers. Cruisers who arrived at the terminal a bit later than the others may skip the Embarkation Lounge and head straight to the ship.

After boarding the ship, the cruisers will now have a chance to walk around to either find their cabins or explore the facilities. First time cruisers who get lost while roaming around the ship don’t need to worry because they can always ask the directions from the friendly crew.

A cruise ship has been described as both a floating hotel and a floating city. Once the cruisers step aboard a cruise ship, they will be welcomed by a grand maze of walkways, levels, and corridors that lead to different rooms, halls, and cabins.

Some cruisers might be overwhelmed by this but it is recommended to treat the enormous ship as a venue for an adventure. Part of the fun for novice cruisers is to find their way around a new ship. Enjoy discovering the amazing features and facilities of the cruise ship that include the gym, the restaurants, the theater, and the swimming pools.

Cruise passengers who already traveled a long way just to get to the terminal are advised to find their cabin first and get a well-deserved rest before embarking on the adventure. They are also advised to bring a carry-on that contains some clothes and toiletries since their luggages may take a while to be delivered.

Cruisers who are not so good at navigating their way into the ship don’t need to be worried about getting lost. Not knowing where to go will always give them an opportunity to explore a little bit and discover a lot of things. Since most cruise ships are enormous, cruisers need to be more patient about finding their way around it. They may always ask for a map or directions. The very friendly crew of the cruise ship is always ready to help lost cruisers to find their way back to their destinations.

What it comes to cabins, they are often conciedered smaller than expected, since photographs can make them look larger. Surroundngs are small, however, for obvious reason: they have to be fitted on a limited amount of space. Despite the size, most cruise cabins are fully-equipped with all the things that the cruisers might need.

To keep things organized, cruisers are given their respective dining assignments. Dining arrangements are very flexible, so cruisers who do not prefer the given seats or the times can have them changed by asking politely from the staff.

Some cruise ships provide their passengers with their very own credit cards that may be used to make purchases inside the ship. Some credit cards are even designed to double as the cruisers’ cabin key card. Cruisers are advised to take good care of these cards because losing them will be of inconvenience not only to the ship employees but also to themselves.

The kinds of cruise ships available nowadays are so huge and so complex that they contain several levels, numerous walkways, many rooms, and a lot of other establishments such as a gym, a restaurant, a sport complex, and a shopping mall. Most cruisers are easily overwhelmed by the huge space and the numerous facilities that they have the tendency to lose their way around the ship. This article contains some tips on how to get around a cruise ship.

Every cruise ship contains an information office where the cruisers can ask for maps, announcements, brochures, or directions to help them explore the place. A map is definitely one of the most effective tools to help cruisers navigate their way around the ship. They may visit the dining area, locate the public restrooms, and find the novelty shops. Those cruisers who need to check their emails but forgot to bring their laptops may always visit the in-house Internet cafe to browse the world wide web.

Cruisers don’t have to feel embarrassed if they ever get lost in the enormous cruise ship. If they have a hard time figuring out the map that they were given, they can always ask the friendly ship crew for some directions. The cruise ship’s crew are always happy to help with whatever the passengers may need.

Most cruises hand out newsletters for their passengers. These newsletters contain a lot of helpful information about the different events, facilities, services, and activities available in the cruise. Cruisers have to keep in mind though that most offers come with equivalent costs. They have to make sure that they can afford to pay for those services in order to avoid an overwhelming bill.

If they wish to attend the events which are scheduled for the evening, cruisers are suggested to study the information about their chosen event so that they will have plenty of time to prepare before it starts.

Even if cruise ships are now equipped with sonar, radar, GPS, and other computer warning systems, the passengers are still obliged to participate in the mandatory lifeboat drill. The standard drill will educate the passengers about what to do in cases of emergencies. They will be taught how to operate a life vest and how to respond in crucial moments. Participating in the mandatory lifeboat drill is not only educational but it can also be fun.

First time cruisers don’t need to worry about anything during their first trip on a cruise. They need to let go of their fears and worries and just mingle with their co-passengers and have fun in the ship. For a more memorable trip, cruisers are advised to just relax and have fun!

For those who have the time and means, a long cruise on the open sea is a wonderful way to make friends, relax, and explore new places.

If you don’t have the time for several week adventure, there are also shorter ‘long’ cruises available. Carnival offers five to seven-day cruises that leave from San Diego to Baja Mexico. Some of these cruises are done with Carnival’s new ship, Elation, which has been deemed as a floating city.

Going on a longer cruise will give you lots of time to familiarize yourself with the ship as well as explore new cities. On board there are restaurants, swimming pools, as well as theatrical and musical entertainments that will surely keep people occupied.

Carnival even offers 15-day trips to the Panama Canal. The price rates are outstanding and travelers find that it’s so worth it. There are also some packages offering round-trip air fare from various spots in the United States.

Those who would like to take their time should go on 15-day cruises. This way, there will be much time to get familiar with the surroundings, participate in activities, and relax. One can even just read, sleep, eat, or lounge around and soak up the sun’s rays.

There are also 14-day cruises from Athens. Cruise-goers will have the opportunity to visit various Greek islands such as Naxos, Mykonos, and others. There will be much time to enjoy going to the gym on board the ship, or check out the ancient ruins that these cities have to offer. Those who want to try their hand at gambling can do so aboard the ship, or can choose among the small bars to visit along Greece’s coastline.

Some people are surprised to find that there are even some relatively inexpensive cruises because airfare is not included in the package and the travelers have to shell out money for their food. Nevertheless, these cruises are still comfortable and enjoyable.

Those who would like to experience a cruise for a longer period of time can plan to go on a month-long trip to Europe and back. The trip can also be cut in half by taking the cruise to Europe and then just taking the plane on the way back.

There are some people who think that sailing is boring. Truth is, they’re wrong. There are lots of things to do aboard. Aside from that, cruises give people the chance to explore places that they haven’t been to before. With the variety of cruise packages nowadays, there will surely be one that will fit anybody’s taste.

Sailing to a spectacular place will definitely take more than just a day. Unpacking and familiarizing with the ship will already take up so much time that there might not be enough left to do much else. Thus, four-day cruises were created.

Just recently, Carnival Cruise Lines made announcements that they are expanding their offerings by adding four and five-day cruise options to their San Diego to Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas cruises. This offering is a great option for those who would like to experience going on a cruise but do not have the luxury of time to do so.

Just as the number of voyages increase, so do the options. Demand for cruises is already heavy and it’s nice that people are being given the chance to sail for four or five days to amazing places.

Even if cruise-goers don’t reside in California, they can still get on an early flight and be aboard for an excellent trip. Luckily, San Diego’s international airport is not a long way from the dock.

Going on a cruise from Thursday to Monday is a good idea. This means that there’s much time to see the ship, take part in a number of on board activities, as well as spend some time on shore. There’s also a lot of time to relax as well as go sightseeing, shopping or lounging around the beach.

Due to the weather, cruises operate during the whole year. This provides several benefits. Cruises can then accommodate travelers who need respite from harsh weather. Aside from that, cruises are great for people who just need a change of scene or those who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The fact that cruises happen year-round also means better sailing schedules since they are not tied within specific months.

Carnival’s newest ship, Elation, is 855 feet and is equipped with a wide range of amenities. There’s a large health club as well as 12 lounges and bars. Hence, those who find themselves drinking and eating too much can shed the pounds afterwards by working out. Aside from that, the ship also has an Internet cafe, WiFi facilities, and even a jogging track. Kids are also provided with amenities such as swimming pools and water slides.

Cruise-goers won’t have to worry what to eat, since this ship boasts of three restaurants as well as a 700-seat poolside eatery. There’s also a patisserie and even complimentary room service. With all these nice bonuses, going on a cruise will definitely be a wonderful experience.

There are many people who dream of going on a cruise but find that they do not have the luxury of time to do so. Cruises that last for three days or more may take up too much time. Thus, it’s good that there are now one-day cruises that busy people can take advantage of.

You can choose any day, although weekends are always bound to be busy. In the past, one-day cruises meant that boarding will be done at Long Beach and the ship would sail to Catalina Island. There are also cruises from New York going to Martha’s Vineyard. Nowadays, though, there are already several cruise lines that offer day cruises in various places.

More Choices, More Fun

Carnival Cruise Lines, for one, offers cruise-goers with several options for sailing along the United States west coast and Mexico. The east coast also has cruises that run from New England to Florida.

Those who are fortunate enough to live in Hawaii can take a cruise around the islands. Those who are in Australia, on the other hand, can tour the Sydney Harbor. In China one-day cruises can be taken around some of China’s major waterways. From the south of France starts Mediterranean cruises, and there are also some short cruises touring the Greek Isles.

Stay Longer Over The Holidays

Majority of cruise lines offer not just weekend day or one day voyages, but also special packages for every holiday of the year. In the United States, cruises during the fourth of July are very popular.

Despite the fact that these cruises are termed as one-day cruises, there are some that last longer. You may have the chance to sail for one day, stay overnight in a different place, and then return the next day. There are also land excursions that come with the package.

Explore More Places

Those who would like to visit Alaska will be glad to know that there are one-day cruises to Prince William Sound. Just take a train from Anchorage to Valdez, then hop aboard to see the otters and whales. The formation of glaciers is also a must-see.

Seward is another port that is popular because large cruise vessels cross paths there regularly. This port is accessible by tour bus or train from Anchorage. Animal lovers will be glad to get the chance to see puffins, sea otters, humpback whales, and sea lions while they’re on a cruise.

There are also many small cruise vessels at Monterey, California. On these cruises too there are great opportunities to see sea life. In fact, during some times of the year, you might even see a whale spouting.

For one-day cruises, San Diego is also a good choice. Even though sea creatures aren’t as many as those in other areas, you can still enjoy the beautiful scenery and pleasant winds.

With all these choices, short cruises can be just as magical as long cruises are.

People who want to try something other than snow-related activities during the winter can always go on a cruise.

Most people from the United States and the rest of the Northern Hemisphere have the tendency to forget that there are some places in the world that maintains a warm weather from October up to March. The fact that there are some parts of the world that stay warm during the winter season or all throughout the year is definitely good news for those who are eager to go on a cruise because they are given a lot of options.

An example of a great cruise is the one that travels down the Nile. It journeys near Luxor, Egypt where the vacationers are allowed to spend six nights to visit everything from the Aswan Dam to the Temple of Luxor.

Vacationers can also try the Oberoi Shehrazad cruise ship that contains a couple of twin-bed cabins for a total of 80 people, a library, a sun deck, and a pool

Another popular destination is the Virgin Islands. Vacationers can explore a dozen islands from Tortola to Jost Van Dyke. The cruise fare may be quite expensive but it is definitely worth every penny because the package already includes scuba diving and snorkeling.

The SV Flying Cloud cruise ship offers superior services for its passengers. Built originally as a spy ship in the 1930s, it now sleeps 66 passengers - 28 of which are crew members. Vacationers will definitely love the fascinating voyage aboard the SV Flying Cloud while sipping on a Bloody Mary.

For vacationers who are interested to embark on a journey towards the orient, they may opt for a 7-night winter cruise to Thailand and Malaysia. They will visit the islands Phi Phi and Ko Khai Nok where they can enjoy diving into the beautiful waters and walking around the exotic islands.

Summer cruises are still the most popular cruises for most people. Families enjoy summer cruises because they get to enjoy a fine-weathered vacation with their kids. There are over a hundred summer cruise options for vacationers.

A lot of people opt for cruises that either sail from San Diego to Baja Mexico or from Vancouver to Alaska but once they have experienced those short trips, they tend to find themselves wanting for something a little more unusual.

Vacationers may choose from a variety of small ship cruises that travel around the Adriatic and the Mediterranean. They may also opt for a journey to southern France, Venice, Dubrovnik, or the little European islands of Hvar and Cres.

Another summer cruise option is to sail from Helsinki towards the Norwegian Fjords during the time when the far northern latitudes are at their warmest and the ice flows at their lowest. Other interesting places nearby are Iceland and the Shetland Islands.

There is a certain cruise ship that sails on a recently renovated vessel that carries up to 245 passengers. The Finnish crew up of the cruise ship also entertain the passengers by performing local Finnish dances and by serving sumptuous Nordic meals that include smoked salmon and native desserts.

By embarking on a journey to Reykjavik, Iceland or Svalbard, Greenland, cruise passengers will discover the irony about Iceland being green and Greenland being icy. Vacationers are sure to witness the Arctic wildlife that they only in books and documentaries. Animals such as polar bears, caribou, musk oxen, and lemming can all be seen during the two-week voyage.

Vacationers who prefer to visit places that are a bit warmer than Iceland or Greenland may opt for a trip to Mexico. Mexican cruises offer voyages that allow its passengers to come and investigate the ruins left by the Mayans. The voyages to explore the Mayan culture are led by tour guides who look as if they were descendants of the original natives. The highlight of the voyage is a trip to the beautiful beaches of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Another great summer cruise option is a trip down to the south. Vacationers may travel into the genuine rainforests and walk around the small villages of Belize, Peru, or Panama. They may also enjoy the clear seas of the Caribbean by snorkeling in the warm waters to discover over a hundred different types of tropical fish.

One unusual voyage will be an expedition to the Azores. Some summer cruises also visit the mid-Atlantic islands of Sao Miguel and Ponta Delgada. Cruise passengers will also have the chance to see whales and dolphins on the way to their destination. They may also visit some exotic bird sanctuaries.

There are some summer cruises that offer a whole new way of exploring Great Britain: by sea. A lot of people may have visited the beautiful country of the British but only a few have explored it by sea. Britain’s enormous amount of shoreline allows the cruise passengers to visit Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland. Vacationers will also have the chance to get a glimpse of the ancient Celtic and Nordic life by visiting some old monuments in the islands.

People who are considering a summer cruise for their next vacation are advised to plan their activities in advance and book their trips early because the summer cruises that offer the best accommodations and the lowest prices are easily filled-up.

Bon voyage!
